This is a work in progress.
The installation images and video are simulations.
Awakening asks viewers to consider how change begins not with spectacle but with subtle, persistent trembling. It embodies the notion that a growing movement or consciousness often starts in obscurity, a low hum of restless potential gathering strength before it is seen or heard in full.
Each egg vibrates independently, becoming an analogue for thought waking up, a seed of possibility refusing dormancy. The dense population evokes a collective intelligence or resistance in its infancy: quiet but undeniable, many small awakenings hinting at solidarity and inevitability.
The installation transforms an empty gallery by covering the entire floor edge-to-edge with emu eggs—dark, speckled forms. Hidden motors within each egg create small, rapid vibrations, causing the entire field to quiver in unison yet individually. The result is an environment charged with anticipation: a room filled with the quiet urgency of something waiting to emerge.
This is a real emu egg. The lovely green speckled color is the natural emu egg color.
