The Earth is always moving.  Not in gestures we can follow, but in slow accumulations, pressure, release, drift. Time, at this scale, does not pass. It gathers.

In Iceland, that movement comes closer to the surface. Divergent fault and volcanism. The ground trembles daily, quietly, insistently.  Seventy to one hundred earthquakes per day, on average.  This piece listens (deeply).

Using a real-time digital data feed from the Icelandic Meteorological Office, each seismic event becomes a line drawn across the screen, and a sound, an articulation of the Earth adjusting itself. With each new quake, a line is drawn across the image, the characteristics of which correspond to those of the quake itself. No single moment defines the change. Instead, the surface slowly darkens as events accumulate, layering into density.
